Judy Ann Martin: June 9, 1938 - Dec. 28, 2020

Judith (Judy) Ann Martin passed Dec. 28 at approximately 10:15 a.m. at age 82.

Judy was born June 9, 1938 in Boise, Idaho, as Judith Ann Williams. She preceded in death by her mother Alyce M. Behrens (Miller), father James L Williams, adopted father Joseph N. Behrens, and one son, Roger Lee Van Winkle, who died at age 5 in 1969. Her three husbands, Charles Van Winkle, Budd Carew and George Martin also preceded her.

Judy is survived by her sons, Joseph Charles Van Winkle, Michael L. Van Winkle and Eric P. Van Winkle; three grandchildren from Eric and his wife, Tsunami, Preston Lee Van Winkle, 29, Tate Andrew Van Winkle, 27, and Alyne Bell Van Winkle, 22); and daughter-in-law Tsunami A. Van Winkle, Eric’s wife.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Hubert Church in Langley, Wash., at a later date. Burial will be at Holy Rood in Shoreline, Wash. Judy will be buried with her beloved son Roger.

Judy was crazy smart with a 170-plus IQ. She was valedictorian of Holy Angels High School. Her friend from high school, Janet, passed on Nov. 27, 2020 and her other friend, Margie Leo, still resides in Olympia, Wash. These three ladies have been close friends with one another for almost 70 years.

Judy earned a master’s degree in mathematics and science while holding three jobs and raising four children alone.

When Judy moved permanently to Whidbey Island, Wash., in about 1980, her life took a better balance socially. In 1976, we bought an A-frame cabin, where her custom-built dream home is today.

• Deer Lake prevention and water control;

• Judge of quilts for Island County fair;

• Certified teacher masters in mathematics and science, minor in art;

• Certified tutor;

• Senior Services active volunteer helping other with sickness, paying their bills and teaching computer skills;

• Active with Time Together;

• She supported W.I.C.A. as a season ticket holder attending all of the performing arts productions she could;

• Very active at her beloved church St. Hubert’s Langley;

• Loved to travel to places around the world as she could;
