Jon W. Carothers: Oct. 1, 1943 – April 27, 2021

Apache Junction, Ariz., on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Jon W. Carothers, professional educator, nature-lover, much-loved husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 77.

Jon was born Oct. 1, 1943 in Aberdeen, Wash. He began his adult life as an educator and taught science, dedicating his life to supporting young people. Then family became the focus, raising his son Kyle and supporting his baseball games.

In his later years, deciding on personal growth and clarity, Jon became an SGI Buddhist and married fellow Buddhist and best friend Lea Inoue. When she asked him his main dream, he said it was to see Mount Everest. Jon completed this main life goal. In addition, Jon walked the entire Camino de Santiago in 43 days. Jon became open and adventurous as he climbed China’s Yellow Mountain, snorkeled with manta rays, rode shotgun on African safari and discovered Ankor Wat.

While traveling, he was saddened by poverty and lack of medical care. Jon was a deeply kind and heartfelt man. He was much loved by all who knew him and will be remembered best for his loving support, niceness, extreme goodness and how he laughed with the grandkids.

Jon is survived by his wife Lea, son Kyle and four grandchildren, Quinn, Cade, Kinley and Peter.

In lieu of flowers, pay goodness forward to your fellow man.
