Johnson R. “Dick”

R. “Dick” Hamilton Johnson, 67 of Freeland, died unexpectedly Jan. 6, 2006 at Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville.

Dick was born Nov. 5, 1938 in Roseburg, Ore., to Hamilton and Jean Johnson.

He grew up in Seattle and attended Highline High School in Burien, graduating in 1956. He attended the University of Washington, and joined the Washington State Association of Building Designers, designing many residential and commercial buildings, mainly in Seattle and on Whidbey Island. In his younger days, he worked for Boeing and Fluke, eventually becoming self employed as a building designer.

Dick married Christine Asay in 1978 and they moved to Whidbey Island after having their daughter, Holly, in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his wife Christine Johnson, and his father Hamilton Johnson.

Dick is survived by his son Jeffrey Johnson of Federal Way, his daughter Holly Johnson and fiance Scott Seiwell of Coupeville, and his “grand-dogs” Teddy, Sandy and Wilbur. He is also survived by his mother Jean Johnson of Freeland and brother Langdon Johnson of Paradise, Calif., as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements under the care of Affordable Cremation Services of Bellevue.

There will be no formal services per his request. There will be a memorial gathering for lattes and pastries at his favorite restaurant, Whidbey Lighthouse Cafe, in Freeland on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please come enjoy a latte and share your favorite memories.
