John Davis

John Russell Davis, 71, of Port Hadlock, died Oct. 5, 2002, of liver failure. He was born June 4, 1931, in Concord, Mass., to Edmond Russell Davis and Susan Horton Graffam Davis. He was raised in Lincoln, Mass., and graduated from Belmont High School in 1949. He attended Harvard College.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Navy from May 1951 to November 1953 and was a structural steel worker with the Seabees in Cuba and North Africa. He married Carole Lowe Bendz May 9, 1953, in Ridgefield, Conn. Mr. Davis had a career in mortgage banking and real estate finance of commercial loans. He also designed and built homes in Westport, Conn., before moving to Mountain View, Calif. He also designed and built his home on Whidbey Island. Mr. Davis enjoyed architecture, home design and travel. At the onset of his illness, he was forced into retirement at Port Hadlock.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Carole Davis of Port Hadlock; his son Brian Davis of Santa Cruz, Calif.; his daughters Sheri Badzik of Hillsboro, Ore., Lisa Petrick of Nordland, and Linda Wight of Auburn; and his brother Peter Davis of South Kent, Conn. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kelly House of San Jose, Calif.; Vanessa Davis of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and John Snelgrove and Brian Snelgrove of Port Hadlock. He was preceded in death by his brothers Stephen and Theodore Davis.

Mr. Davis was cremated; at his request, no services will be held. Burial will be at Seaview Cemeteray on North Haven Island, Maine.
