Joan Ellis Austin, 46, died June 12, 2003, at Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach, Va. She was born April 2, 1957, in Coupeville to Darrell and Ruth (Heiner) Ellis. She was raised in Oak Harbor and graduated from Oak Harbor High School.

Joan was working as a customer service agent for Delta Airlines and was a Sunday school teacher at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Virginia Beach.

Joan is survived by her husband Philip J. Austin of Virginia Beach, Va.; children Timothy A. Ratcliff of Los Angeles, and Michael P. Austin of Virginia Beach, Va.; by three brothers Leslie Ellis of Seattle and Steven Ellis and Jeffrey Ellis, both of Oak Harbor and by her mother Ruth Heiner Ellis, also of Oak Harbor. Her father Darrell C. Ellis, and one brother, Michael D. Ellis, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Joan Ellis Austin will held Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 2 p.m., at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Oak Harbor, with Bishop Lloyd Johnsen. Burial will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church Relief Society room from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday.
