Jared Davis

Jared Lee Davis, 17, died at his home in Oak Harbor Jan. 11, following a valiant struggle with synovial cell sarcoma. He was born March 9, 1986, in Seoul, South Korea. He came to the United States at the age of three months and spent the first two years with his family at Twin Falls, Idaho. He moved with his family to Lemoore, Calif., and then on to Port Orchard. In 1995, the Davis family moved to Oak Harbor.

Jared Davis was a member of Family Bible Church and its youth group. He was a member of the senior class of Oak Harbor High School and a member of the National Honor Society. He was listed in Who’s Who of American High School Students. Jared was a skilled athlete and a member of the cross country team and was voted Inspirational Male Athlete for 2003. He served as an officer in the NJROTC program at the high school and was a member of the rifle team.

Jared also had a deep love of country and military service. He was a cadet/first lieutenant of the Civil Air Patrol, Skagit Composite Squadron and a member of the Navy Flying Club. His dream was to some day fly military aircraft. He received the Aerospace Education Award and the Inspirational Award from Civil Air Patrol for 2003.

His parents Jeff and Sheri Davis, one sister Breanna and one brother Trevor Davis, all of Oak Harbor, survive Jared. His grandparents, Hubert and Bonita Swafford of Twin Falls, Idaho; uncles and aunts Mike and Carolyn Swafford of Maple Valley; Scott and Jenny Swafford of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Marc and Cindy Davis of Caldwell, Idaho, and cousins, Kristen Swafford of Kirkland, Alyssa Swafford of Boise, Idaho, Nicole and Alayna Swafford, both of Twin Falls, Idaho, also survive.

Celebration memorial services for Jared Lee Davis will be held Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Oak Harbor High School’s Parker Hall on NW Second Avenue with Pastor Ron Willis officiating. Family graveside services will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by Oak Harbor High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, Jan. 14, at Burley Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to World Vision for water projects around the world.
