Jane E. (O’Brien) Squires Hart

4/12/36-7/30/15

Jane E. (O’Brien) Squires Hart passed away on July 30, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, due to a hemorrhagic stroke.

Jane was born in Everett to Raymond G. and Edna J. (Clark) O’Brien on April 12, 1936.

She was baptized, confirmed and married at First Presbyterian Church in Everett. She graduated from Everett High School in 1954. While attending Everett Community College, she met Thomas H. Squires and they married soon after on August 20, 1955. They traveled the world as a U.S. Air Force family until Tom retired in 1973 and they bought a house in Clinton to be near family and begin civilian life.

Jane was a marvelous seamstress and avid traveler and enjoyed singing in many choirs throughout her life — in particular, Sweet Adelines International.

She was witty and generous and loved to share memories and jokes. She also enjoyed decorating and gardening. Jane loved her island life on Whidbey, where her ancestors homesteaded at Maxwelton and her roots ran deep.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Allan Gray; her parents; her husband, Tom (1985); her eldest son, Brien Squires (2005); and her second husband, Harold Hart (2012). She leaves behind her son, Perry (Colleen) Squires of Mt. Vernon; her daughter, Amy (Wayne) Van Dam of Oak Harbor; her daughter-in-law, Shelley Squires of Ferndale; her grandchildren, Caitlin Grimsdick, Hillary Squires, Molly Van Dam and Max Van Dam; and her brothers, Phane O’Brien and Terry O’Brien and their families; as well as many dear family members and friends.

The memorial service for Jane will be held at 1 p.m., Aug. 15, at Whidbey Presbyterian Church, 1148 SE 8th Ave, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. The service will be led by Pastor Hallack Greider.
