James O’Malley

James Michael O’Malley, 41, of Oak Harbor, died at his home Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, following a brief illness.

Mr. O’Malley was born May 22, 1961, in Geneva, N.Y., to John E. O’Malley, Jr. and Luellen Marie (Gensimore) O’Malley. He was raised in Geneva, graduating from Geneva High School in 1980. He joined the US Navy, and was stationed at the following duty locations: Memphis, Tenn. (“A” School – 1981), Guam (VQ-1 for four years); Oceana Naval Air Station in Virgiania (SAR unit – three years); Guam (electronics technician – four years); San Diego (VQ-5 – three years); and Whidbey Island Naval Air Station (VQ-1) until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2001. He enjoyed fishing, camping, building models, jogging and singing in the choir at the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church.

James is survived by his wife Leonora (Delacruz) O’Malley at home, to whom he was married on Dec. 10, 1987, in Agana, Guam; his daughter, Malissa Ann O’Malley of Oak Harbor; his parents, John E. And Luellen M. O’Malley of Geneva, N.Y.; four sisters, Kathleen Ann Hilyer of Theresa, N.Y., Patricia Jane O’Malley of Syracuse, N.Y., Mary T. Ferrer of Anniston, Ala. and Carol Marie Kelley of Canadaigua, N.Y.; one brother, John P. O’Malley of Marion, N.Y.; also, numerous other relatives.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday Oct. 18, 2002, from 9-11 a.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be Friday, 1 p.m. at Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church, Pastor Grafton Robinson officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Concluding services and inurnment will take place at a later date in Geneva, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church.
