Jack Goetz

God shared Jack with us for 83 years and on April 14, 2003, called him to his heavenly home. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children.

Jack was born Jan. 2, 1920, at the family ranch in Canniwa Canyon, Lincoln County, to John R and Emma (Wagner) Goetz. He was nicknamed “Happy” by an uncle and enjoyed that disposition throughout his life.

Hap graduated from Marlin High School in 1938 and entered The State College of Washington in Pullman. His college study was interrupted by World War II, when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater earning many decorations including two Bronze Stars as a B-25 pilot.

After returning, he continued his studies at the state college, earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts. In August of 1948, he married Anne Chicos and together they moved to Tacoma, where he completed additional course work earning a bachelor of education degree at Pacific Lutheran College.

In 1950, Hap and Anne moved to Oak Harbor, where he taught industrial arts at the high school for the next 25 years. Hap has left a legacy of wonderful memories and a philosophy of positive school involvement, hard work and impeccable ethics.

Hap is survived by loving wife Anne; daughter Jan and husband Bob; son Marc and wife Maureen; son Jeff and wife Kathey; five grandchildren; brother Alvin and sister Alma.
