Hedy M. Scott passed away peacefully Dec. 26, 2008, at Careage of Whidbey following an extended illness. Hedy was born Jan. 1, 1933 to Stanley and Maryanna Deptula in Port Washington, N.Y. She was the youngest child with three brothers John, Edward, and Charles Deptula. She was the first of her family to be born in the United States after they emigrated from Poland to New York.
On Dec. 3, 1949, Hedy married Wilfred Earl Scott (Scotty), of Colorado and it was because of Earl’s military career that they were led to Oak Harbor and retired here. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and honorary grandma to many. Hedy was known for showering her family with affection and the art of being a wonderful cook.
She is survived by her husband of more than 59 years; her three children and their spouses, Alice and husband Loni Saiz, Linda and husband Paul Wood and Robert (Bob) and wife Sherrie Coffman Scott; her six grandchildren, Vincent and Christopher Hughes, Christine and Paul Wood and wife Debby, Jaclyn Scott Matthews and husband Michael Matthews and John Scott; and four great-grandchildren, Vincent Hughes, Christian and Cameron Mathews, and Chloe Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers John, and Edward. She leaves all of them with a lifetime of memories love and laughter. She will be missed.
At her request, there will be no public services held for Hedy. The family suggests donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
