Gordon G. Nansel passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Vernon, Washington the morning of July 19, 2012. Gordon was born to Harry and Bernice Nansel on September 29, 1928 in Lennox, California. He served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947. Gordon married Nola Farner on June 5, 1949 in Torrance, CA and they raised their five children in southern California. They moved to Washington with their family in 1975. Gordon worked in retail all of his life and enjoyed the company of customers that became friends. He and Nola owned and operated the variety store, Haan’s 88 in Burlington in the 80’s and then prior to retiring they owned and operated Quinn’s Market for 18 years, a market, gas station and deli across from Deception Pass State Park in Oak Harbor, WA.
Gordon’s interests centered around his family and close friends. He enjoyed boating, camping, working on remodeling projects, traveling to Alaska, and attending Neil Diamond, Paul Simon and Willie Nelson concerts.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nola, and their daughter, Lorie Landry. Gordon is survived by his son Delbert and his wife Sheri of Mount Vernon, his son Kurt and his wife Sue of Yakima; his daughter April and her husband Denny Ruswick of Bellingham; his son Vern and his wife Kathy of Mount Vernon; ten grandchildren: Adina, Mandy, Danny, Matt, Todd, Katie, Joanne, Melissa, Brittney and Ashley; and seven great grandchildren: Kayla, Charlotte, Nathan, Tyler, Tanner, Brodie, and Sky.
At Gordon’s request there will be no service—we will raise a toast in his honor and share the stories of the times we shared with him. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Hospice of the Northwest.
