Gloria Louise Johnson, 69, 40-year resident of Oak Harbor, passed away Oct. 5, 2003 at Whidbey General Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Reading, Pa., Oct. 28, 1933, to Leroy Reinheimer and Florence (Albright) Reinheimer. She married Oscar Allen Johnson, Jr., Nov. 6, 1955, in Reading, and they lived at Camp Le Jeune, N.C., while Gloria served in the U.S. Marine Corps. After several years, they moved to Astoria, Ore., for a few years, and then to Oak Harbor in 1963. Gloria worked as a clerk at Myer’s Mini-Market for 17 years, after which she was employed as a dietary aide at Harbor Towers.
Gloria was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post No. 129, the Fleet Reserve Association and was also active in the Oak Harbor Senior Center. She attended Living Faith Christian Center. Gloria loved Karaoke, and was unofficially dubbed the reigning “Karaoke Queen” at the Senior Center. She also loved to play Bingo, Scrabble and Dominoes. She was known by her family and her many friends as a vibrant and giving lady.
Gloria is survived by her four children, Pier Ann Johnson, Mark Kevin Johnson and Katrina Renee Johnson, all of Oak Harbor, and Robert Peter Johnson of Billings, Mont.; three grandchildren, Haley Ann Jones and Nelson Lee Jones, both of Oak Harbor, and Robert Allen Johnson of Twin Lakes, Wis.; one sister, Evelyn Ignozzi and her husband Peter of Bradenton, Fla.; one niece, Pier Ignozzi of Bradenton, Fla.; one nephew, Pren Ignozzi of Redding, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, on July 18, 1985, and by a brother, Leroy Reinheimer, Jr.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, Pastor David Jenkins officiating. Memorials may be made to the Oak Harbor Senior Center. Arrangements and cremation are under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
