Freeman Everet Boyer Jr.: Sept., 14, 1921-April 27, 2018

Freeman Everet Boyer Jr. was born Sept., 14, 1921, in the family home on the south end of Ebey’s prairie in Coupeville.

He attended the Coupeville schools and graduated from high school in 1939. While in school, he worked on the farm in the summer. After high school, he worked full time on the farm.

In 1946 at age 24, he wed Opal Sloth. They fixed up one of the houses on the farm. In the next 10 years, they had three children: Gail, Gary and Ted.

His father retired in 1956 and Freeman began managing the 300-acre farm. Freeman became a member of the Coupeville United Methodist Church in 1946 and was very active. He was also elected to the school board and served 8 years. In 1945, he joined the Coupeville Lion’s Club. He was awarded a life membership and The Melvin Jones Fellowship award. He was chairman in 1951-52.

Freeman played basketball in high school. He also participated on the Lion’s basketball and volleyball team. He enjoyed swimming, waterskiing and tennis.

Freeman and Opal had a new home built on a clearing of their property on Eggerman Road in 1987. His wife Opal died in 2008. He later married a long-time friend, Mary Syreen,and had a very happy and successful marriage.

Freeman is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Gail (Scott) Pope, son Gary (Jamie) Boyer, son Ted (Kevin) Boyer, step son Mike (Liz) Syreen and step daughter Marilyn Syreen, 6 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren.

Services will be held June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coupeville United Methodist Church.
