Fred “Hoot” Gibson passed away on April 23, 2018 at the age of 94. Fred was born in Attalia, Wash. on Sept. 27, 1923. He attended Queen Anne High School in Seattle. In 1941, he joined the Navy serving his country for 21 years before he was honorably discharged as a WWII and Korean War veteran. Soon after his military career, he was employed by the Oak Harbor School District Maintenance Department as a cabinet maker, where he worked until he retired.

Fred married his loving wife Anita on April 28, 1943. In their almost 75 years of marriage, they had three daughters: Cheryl (Leroy), Beatrice (Gary), and Christine; six grand-children: Kerri (Steve), Mishel, Nicole (Eric), Jonathan (Bethany), Stephanie (Rafi) and Kelly, 14 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Fred enjoyed his trips to Stuart Island, creating lifetime memories with all his friends and family during his island adventures. We all will miss Fred’s commitment to his family and willingness to help all. He will be missed by many and was loved by all who knew him.
