Frank Yutaka Maruhashi

Frank Yutaka Maruhashi, 86, of Coupeville, passed away Jan. 20, 2010, at Careage of Whidbey.

Mr. Maruhashi was born in Seattle on Jan. 28, 1923, to Toyota and Yano (Nakayama) Maruhashi. He attended Seattle schools and graduated from Broadway High School. World War II began, and Frank and his family were sent to internment camps with other Japanese-Americans. Frank’s father owned hotels and was a member of the Japanese Apartment Owners Association; therefore, following the war, Frank helped the family by managing the Hotel Our Home in Seattle. He was also an auto mechanic. Frank served as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service from 1964 until retiring in 1984. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, clam digging, smelting and especially hunting for mushrooms.

Frank is survived by his sister, Chieko Sumimoto of Seattle, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements are with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 746 NE Midway Blvd., Oak Harbor.
