Frank Ashton

Frank Joseph Henry “Hank” Ashton, 86, of Oak Harbor, died Dec. 7, 2004 at Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville.

Mr. Ashton was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Aug. 7, 1918, to Henry Ashton and Elizabeth (Wiemar) Ashton. He was raised in Los Angeles. Following high school graduation, he worked at Lockheed Aircraft, where he was assigned to the Liverpool, England, Assembly Division. Hank married Hetty May Chidlow Aug. 29, 1942, in Liverpool. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. Hank and Hetty lived for many years in the San Fernando Valley where he was employed as a manufacturing engineer for Lockheed. They moved to Oak Harbor in 1978.

Hank was a charter member of the World War II Memorial, a member of the Lockheed Management Club and the Experimental Aircraft Association, as such he was active for a number of years with the Arlington Air Show and working with model airplanes. Hank was a deacon and lay reader in the Episcopal Church in San Fernando, and an active member of the First Reformed Church in Oak Harbor.

Hank is survived by his wife Hetty, at home in Oak Harbor; two children, Andrew Otto Ashton of Mukilteo and Virginia May Jacobs and husband Robert of Fairfax, Va.; and two grandchildren, William Jacobs of Maryland and Jacqueline Jacobs of Williamsburg, Va.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Private interment will take place at Valhalla Cemetery in Burbank, Calif.
