Francisco L. Escalante

Francisco Escalante, 55, died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Friday, March 27, 2009. He was born Oct. 10, 1953 in Bacolod City, Philippines to Ernesto and Lourdes Locsin Escalante.

Frank graduated from Colegio de San Augustine in Bacolod City, Philippines with a bachelor of science degree. In 1983, he married Elena Lacson. Together they raised four children. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1986 serving for 11 years until his retirement. He then went to Skagit Valley College and received a degree in computer information systems while working part-time at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station Crescent Harbor Marina. He then worked at L3 Communications until he put in his resignation due to his illness.

He had a passion to see the world during his active duty with travels that included Spain, Bahrain, Japan and Jerusalem, to name a few, and he continued his travels after retirement to places such as the Bahamas, Mexico, Australia and of course, the Philippines frequently. He loved the outdoors, fishing, crabbing, sailing and camping in his motor home.

Frank is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elena, at the family home, along with daughters Mary Catherine of Avon, Ind., Melissa of Seattle, sons Michael of Akin, S.C., and Marty of Las Vegas, Nev. He is also survived by his parents, Ernesto and Lourdes Escalante of Bacolod City, Philippines; five sisters, Patsy, Maggie, Malou, Roxanne and Trinette; and four brothers, Johan, Greg, Ernesto Jr., and Martin. He also leaves six grandchildren, Jasmine, Mikhail, Cole, Melloury, Hannah and Chase.

Visitation for Frank Escalante will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be said for him on Friday, April 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Oak Harbor.
