Faith Ellen (Brockway) Jernberg

Faith Ellen (Brockway) Jernberg passed away the evening of Aug. 8, 2009. That day marked the 39th wedding anniversary with the love of her life, Don Jernberg. She was preceded in death by their daughter, Brigette Joy (age 16), Faith’s older brother, Loren (age 55), and her father, Bruce Brockway (age 85).

Faith was born Jan. 24, 1951, in Anchor Point, Alaska where the family homesteaded on the Kenai Peninsula before Alaska was even a state. When Faith was almost 2 years old, the family relocated back to Seattle where she attended Lake Forest Park Elementary and Brookside Elementary. She went to Morgan Junior High and then attended Shorecrest High where she graduated in 1969. She married Don G. Jernberg in August, 1970. A daughter, Brigette Joy, was born Nov. 20, 1973, followed by a son, Gabriel Don, who was born Nov. 9, 1976. Faith and Don, with their two children, moved to Oak Harbor in 1979. Several years later in July of 2002, they moved to Desert Hot Springs, Calif. Following that, Faith and Don lived for a short time in Spokane. In April of 2007, they moved back to Oak Harbor. On Aug. 8, 2008, Faith and Don were advised by her doctor that she had inoperable cancer. One year later, to the day, she danced her way through Heaven’s gates. She was such an inspiration to her family and friends.

Faith loved her hobbies, which included scrapbooking, sewing, reading, baking and cake decorating. She loved putting on skits at family gatherings and church functions, throwing NERD parties, and collecting beautiful hats. She owned a small business named “Sweet Temptations” that featured an array of wonderful desserts. Faith baked and sold organic delights at the Farmers Market here in town. For many years, Faith and her sister, Linda, sold their handmade gifts at local arts and crafts fairs and church bazaars. She also baked and decorated wedding cakes as she partnered with her husband Don, in his business, Iron Mountain Photography. She attended Living Word Fellowship and truly loved her extended family there.

Faith is survived by her husband Don; a son Gabriel (who married Darcie Riddock Aug. 1, 2003); a granddaughter Kenzie Brigette (four years); a grandson Joshus Gabriel (three years); her mother, Iris Brockway of Oak Harbor; sister Linda Williams of Oak Harbor; sister Juanita Bunch of Seattle; brother Gale Brockway of Colorado Spings; and brother Nathan Brockway of Oak Harbor.

A Memorial Service will be held at Living Word Fellowship, 490 NW Crosby Rd., Oak Harbor (675-5008) on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2:30 p.m. Reception following the service for anyone wishing to join the family in celebrating Faith’s incredible journey through life.
