Eunice Mae Christensen

Private graveside funeral services for Eunice Mae Christensen were held Aug. 30 at Sunnyside Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at Summer Hill Retirement Center, Oak Harbor, with Pastor Fred Renfroe officiating.

Eunice Mae Christensen, 87, died Aug. 27, 2002, in Oak Harbor. She was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Detroit, Mich., to Wilfred and Beatrice Holloway. Raised in Detroit, Eunice graduated from Cooley High School. Prior to World War II, she and her family spent time in England.

Eunice attended Commerce Business School in Detroit and was trained as a comptometer operator, the predecessor of the modern adding machine. On May 8, 1937, she was married to Wilbur Emmons Christensen in Detroit.

Mrs. Christensen worked for Hostess Cake Company, Wiley Laboratories and Bigelow Carpet Company over a period of 17 years. In 1946, she moved to Los Angeles to follow her husband’s career. She eventually retired from the work force to operate a family store in Frazier Park, Calif. In 1982, she and Wilbur moved to Sequim where they lived at Parkwood Mobile Home Court.

In November of 2001, the Christensens moved to Summerhill Retirement Center in Oak Harbor and most recently, moved to the Pasek Adult Family Home.

Mrs. Christensen was more affectionately known as Eunie by family and friends. In her younger years, she was an avid square dancer, ballroom dancer, water skier and bowler. She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles and reading.

Mrs. Christensen is survived by her husband Wilbur of Oak Harbor; by two sons, Dennis Christensen (Syd) of San Marcos, Calif., and David W. Christensen (Igene Engell) of Coupeville. Three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren also survive.
