Eugene Davis Rogers, born Jan. 31, 1917 in Munson, Fla., to George and Ossie Rogers, died Nov. 16, 2005 in Oak Harbor.
He entered the Navy April 3, 1937 as a Seaman. He served on the USS Omaha, USS Valley Forge, USS Franklin, USS Essex, an was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asian Pacific Area Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He retired from the Navy Nov. 1, 1964 as a Chief Warrant Officer.
Mr. Rogers worked for Allegheny Airlines as an FAA licensed mechanic, 1965, and for Civil Service with Naval Air Engineering Service Unit, 1968. He was First Navy Aviation Corrosion Control Field engineer, and principal expert and advisor for corrosion control matters to NAVAIRPAC wing command and attached squadrons in San Diego and Western Pacific. He contributed to the improvement of all NAVAIR Corrosion Control manuals, retiring from Civil Service, December, 1982.
He worked with wife, Dorothy, in real estate until 1984.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor and the Masonic Lodge of Coupeville.
Traveled with the Navy and made his home in: Key West, Fla.; Miam; NATCC, Millington, Tenn.; Adak, Alaska; Oahu, Hawaii; Philadelphia; San Diego; NAS, Cubic Point, Philippines. He moved to Oak Harbor in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Rogers, in 1969; his mother, Ossie Rogers, in 1986; and his sister, Hazel Davidson, in 1996.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy of Oak Harbor; daughter, Judy DeFelice, of San Diego; son, David Rogers, of Oak Harbor; daughter, Pamela Suarez, of San Diego; daughter Connie Rogers-Lamb, of Lakewood; 10 grandchildren, one great grandson, one great granddaughter; sisters, Patricia Barnhill of Baker, Fla.; Edith Flemming, of Sacramento; and Christine Hooper, of Santa Cruz, Calif.
He was conscientious to do whatever he did right and with love and taking full responsibility for family, work and friends.
He is at peace with his lord, Jesus Christ.
Memorial will be held at First Reformed Church, 250 SW 3rd Avenue, Oak Harbor, on Monday, Nov. 21, at 1:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Youth Ministry of First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor.
