Esther Krieg

Graveside funeral services for Esther A. Krieg will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at 1:30 p.m., at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Veldman officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge.

Esther Arlesa Krieg, 88, died at her home in Oak Harbor July 12, 2003. She was born in Monroe Dec. 3, 1914, to Samuel Prince and Cora Arlesa (Owens) Elliott. As a young lady, Esther lived in North Carolina, Idaho and Startup. She came to Oak Harbor with her family and graduated from Oak Harbor High School with the class of 1932.

Esther was married to Karl C. “Buster” Krieg, Jr. in 1932. They moved to Port Townsend and then on to Forks, but returned to Oak Harbor, making it their permanent home. They operated a farm, raising cows and turkeys. In 1948, the Kriegs started Krieg Construction Company and Esther became the bookkeeper and jack-of-all-trades.

Esther retired in 1975. She became a board member of Krieg Construction Company and for many years served as chairman of the board. She and Buster spent a few years as snowbirds in Queens Valley, Ariz. Esther loved golf and enjoyed knitting and playing the piano.

Esther was a member of Oak Harbor Emblem Club No. 450 and the Daughters of the Nile.

Esther Krieg is survived by two children, Shirley Ronhaar and Karl and Darlene Krieg, all of Oak Harbor; by nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Krieg, by her parents Sam and Cora Elliott, by one son Richard Krieg, one son-in-law Bob Ronhaar and two brothers, Benny Elliott and Chester Elliott.
