Ernest B, Benson, also known as Dr B., age 65 of Mount Vernon, passed away Feb. 14, 2009, in Bellingham. Ernie was born Jan. 5, 1944, in Olympia to Ernest and Helen (Irwin) Benson. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966.

Ernie graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in Education, but decided after one quarter teaching that it wasn’t the job for him. Ernie spent the last 35-plus years being a bar manager at different bars in Skagit County, working at the Lighthouse in La Conner the longest.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Ernie is survived by numerous friends in Whatcom and Skagit counties. At Ernie’s request, there will no services.
