Elsie Juliette Melver, 82, died May 30, 2003, in Coupeville. She was born May 4, 1921, in Ballard to George and Anne Marie Gunderson. She married Roald Andreas Melver.

The Melvers moved from Renton to Whidbey Island in 1978. Elsie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland and an alumna of Pacific Lutheran University.

Elsie was a member of Deer Lagoon Grange, Ham Radio, Daughters of Norway, Ballard High School Golden Beavers Reunion Group, and was known as Grandma Elsie to many people.

She is survived by her husband Roald, of Greenbank; two sons, Ronald Allen Melver of Bend, Ore., and John Andrew Melver of Des Moines; one sister, Dorothy Gunderson Anderson of Kirkland; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Highway 525 and Woodard Road, Freeland. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery.
