Elmer Corbin

Elmer Floyd “Jim” Corbin, 66, 20-year resident of Whidbey Island, died at his Greenbank home Thursday, May 22, 2003, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Corbin was born in Theresa, N.Y., Feb. 24, 1937, to Floyd Corbin and Margaret (Mullany) Corbin. He attended schools in Watertown, N.Y., where he graduated from high school. Following graduation, he entered the US Air Force, serving from 1956-1960. Jim lived in Tacoma, Arlington and Everett, before coming to Greenbank in 1983. He was employed as a millwright, working for Boeing, Honeywell and Raytheon. He also drove log trucks and, with a partner, owned and operated a home construction company. Jim retired from Raytheon in 1999 as maintenance supervisor. In 1986, he built his home at Greenbank. He loved traveling in his RV, fishing, motorcycling, hunting and playing pinochle, particularly with his friends at the Oak Harbor Senior Center, where he was actively involved.

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane; one son, Jim Corbin and wife Cheila of Everett; four step-daughters, Lydia Gross and husband Eliot of Chandler, Ariz., Rhoda Huff and husband Joe of Lawrenceville, Ga., Diana Richardson and husband Dave of Snohomish and Debbie Morgan of Wenatchee; two step-sons, Dan Kimball and his wife Dawn of Chandler, Ariz. and Jason Christofferson and wife Sierra of Bozeman, Mont.; grandchildren, Collettee and Bryant Corbin, Kate and Andrew Gross, as well as others; four sisters, Shirley McConnell and husband Kelly, Jane Delong and husband Bob, and Virginia Kline, all of Watertown, N.Y., Sadie Hardik and husband John of Elyria, Ohio; also, brother-in-law Merrill Brownell of Brownsville, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Brownell and his parents, Floyd and Margaret Corbin.
