Elizabeth Ferguson

Memorial services for Elizabeth A. Ferguson will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerry Buss and Rev. Laurie Bleakley officiating. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later time.

Elizabeth Alice “Betty” Ferguson died in her home in Oak Harbor on May 20, 2003, at the age of 61, surrounded by family. She was born Dec. 19, 1941, in Philadelphia, Penn., one of four children born to Robert J. and Emilie B. Fleetwood. Betty spent most of her childhood in Felton, Del., and then returned to Philadelphia.

She graduated from Mastbaum Vocational-Technical High School in 1959. On Oct. 21, 1961, she was married to Richard S. Ferguson in Philadelphia. Dick was in the Navy, and as a result they were stationed at Norfolk, Va.; Fallon, Nev.; Alameda, Calif.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Miramar, Calif., before making Oak Harbor their home in 1970.

Betty was very involved and active in Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible school, was a member of the Ladies Club, Luther League, Stephen Ministries and involved in various other groups outside of the church such as Girl Scouts, Cub Scout Den 59, Boy Scout Troop 59, Rainbow Girls, Navy Wives Association, and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. Betty owned and operated Last Resort Main Service for 12 years.

She had an associate’s of arts degree in accounting. She worked in various local offices: Dr. Robert Juhl, Wireless World as an accountant, Dr. Joseph Higgins, and Teddy Bear Child Care Center.

Betty Ferguson is survived by four children and their spouses: E. Ramona Ferguson of Oak Harbor; Robert C. Ferguson and wife Stephanie of Laurel, Md.; Richard J. Ferguson and wife Roni of Oak Harbor; and Ronald G. Ferguson and wife Jennifer of Seattle. She is also survived by one sister, Emilie Colavecci of Collegeville, Pa., and one brother George Fleetwood and wife Pat of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren: Marcus, Ashley, Amber, Jonathan, Mariah, Charles, and Ella Ferguson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard S. Ferguson, one brother John Fleetwood, her mother Emilie B. Fleetwood and her father Robert J. Fleetwood.
