Edwin R. Zafra died from a long illness on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the age of 46. Ed was born in Davao City, Philippines on May 8, 1966.
Ed came to the United States with his brother in April 1982. He started working for the Washington Bulb Company in May of that same year and he worked there for 11 years. In 1993 he started working for Commercial Cold Storage in Mount Vernon. By that time, he was living with his brother Chris.
During weekends Edwin would go to Canada with friends. He did meet lots of girlfriends from Canada and sometimes those girls would come to Oak Harbor with Edwin and visit him in his apartment. Edwin was friendly and outgoing. He loved to listen to nice Tagalog and modern music and watch action movies.
By 2002 Edwin decided to live in Mount Vernon. He stayed in Casa Grande Apartments until Sept 13, 2012 when he had colon cancer surgery. Due to his history of diabetes and asthma, he had a lot of complications and he was in critical care. Edwin suffered through much of that time.
Edwin’s family is very thankful to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, the doctors and nurses on staff, and the Hospice Care Team. They were so caring to Edwin.
Edwin is survived by his mother, Alicia Sinclair and stepfather, Leroy; his brother Chris and wife, Perla, and their children Aeron, Matt, and Justin of Oak Harbor; sisters Susan and husband James Robbins, and children Emily and Kelly, and sister Mary Sinclair.
