Edward A. Morrow

Edward A. Morrow passed away on Nov. 17 at his home in Oak Harbor after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 11, 1946, in Anacortes, Wash. to Bill and Louella (Wells) Morrow.

Ed grew up in Oak Harbor in simpler times, attended Oak Harbor schools, graduating from Oak Harbor High School with the class of 1964.

His childhood was spent fishing at the Coop dock, hanging at city beach, playing little league baseball, skating at the Roller Barn, enjoying the camaraderie of his friends and of course burgers at Kow Korner after baseball practice. Ed had a life-long love for the game of baseball starting with little league when he was eight years old.

He was a third baseman for Oak Harbor High School, played college ball at Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University, and capped his baseball career playing in Europe for the London Rockets for three seasons in a league comprised of former professional and college players. Ed was a league All-Star twice while playing shortstop and hitting 348 in 1967. Ed was a lifelong Baseball card collector and was thrilled when he was featured on his own baseball card while playing with the London Rockets.

Ed served his country proudly for four years in the United States Air Force. When Ed returned from the service he went to work for the United States Postal Service in Bellevue, Wash., retiring in 2001 after 33 years, and moved home to Oak Harbor to be close to his family.

While retired, Ed enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his son, Jason, brother, Bill and many friends. Ed was an avid bowler averaging in the 200’s and bowled a perfect 300 game in September 2004.

Ed could tell you stats about every player in baseball, his passion and love for the game never waining. He was a Seattle Mariners season ticket holder for many years, and was thrilled that his son Jason played little league, high school and college baseball at a high level making numerous all-star teams and had the same love of the game. Ed’s love for his son and pride in the man he has become was a great joy in his life.

Ed lived his life with no pretense, he knew who and what he liked.

He was a runner and fitness was important to him, he tried to eat healthy and was conscious of everything and how it affected his health. In his last days when asked what he would have done differently, he replied “I would have ate more hamburgers!” Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Louella Morrow in 2009 and Bill K. Morrow, Sr. in 2013.

He is survived by his son Jason Morrow and fiancé Angela DiRe of Newcastle, Wash., their daughter and Ed’s first grandchild due to be born in March 2016.

He is also survived by his brother Bill and his wife Maggie of Oak Harbor, brother Jim of Oak Harbor, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his 15 year old cat, Squeaky.

At Ed’s request there will be no service.
