E. Joan Cheney, age 86, a resident of Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.

She was born Feb. 20, 1931, on Whidbey Island, the daughter of Elmer and A. Lucille (Ensminger) Vogt. Ted Cheney and E. Joan were married, Jan. 17, 1953, at the First Christian Church in Mount Vernon and were married for 53-and-a-half years. The love of music played a huge roll in their lives.

A graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Mount Vernon Cemetery, 1200 E. Fir Street, Mount Vernon with a reception following at Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.

E. Joan is survived by her son Ken and wife Debbie of Mount Vernon; son David of Bellingham; daughter Suzanne and husband, Don Curry of Arizona; three grandchildren; her brother Bob Vogt of Oak Harbor; and sister Jackie Eastman of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her sisters Ardis Ronhar and Phyllis Lovejoy.
