E. Duane Kemp, a leader in the Whidbey Island community for many years, died Friday morning, Aug. 27, at the age of 86.

A retired Navy commander, Kemp went on to become Island County Auditor and then Island County Commissioner during the 1980s. He was active in a number of community organizations.

Burley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. No funeral date had been determined by the family as of Friday. A full obituary will follow.
