Doris Rowe

Doris Rowe of Oak Harbor died on Dec. 16, 2009 at Whidbey General Hospital. Doris was the daughter of James Drake and Dorothy Hatfield of Anacortes. She attended local schools and married Allan Rowe on March 24, 1950.

She became a Navy wife. As such, she and her family moved around the U.S. and lived in Japan for three years. As a Navy wife she was the foundation of family life, raising two sons by herself while her husband was on active duty deployments.

After retirement, she and her husband Allan settled in Oak Harbor. They frequently traveled across country to visit friends and family, and toured Alaska with her sister Jean and brother-in-law Les Hassler. Doris developed a love for seeking out antiques, golf, quilting, and genealogy. She was also a member of DAR.

Sons Gregory Rowe and wife Donna, Mike Rowe and wife Susan, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren survive her. Her brother Bud Drake and sister Pauline Green also survive her. Doris will be remembered as an independent woman with a love for life, friends, and family. She will be deeply missed.

A graveside memorial service was held for Doris on Jan. 4 at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Burley Funeral Chapel of Oak Harbor was entrusted with arrangements.
