Doris Borland

Doris M. Borland, 81, of Rochester, Minn., died May 9, 2005, at Samaritan Bethany Home in Rochester after a lengthy illness. She was born Doris M. Everson, Nov. 27, 1923, in Rock Dell Township, Olmsted County, Minn. She married LeRoy H. Borland in 1949 in Rochester.

Mr. Borland died in November 1977.

Doris grew up in the Rock Dell Township area. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She moved into Rochester as a young women. During her working career she worked at “The Pantry,” Waters-Connelly, Schmidt Printing, McDonald’s and the Pla-Mor Ballroom. Her husband was vice-president and general manager at Rochester Transfer and Storage Company.

She was a member of East St. Olaf Lutheran Church and PHI Sigma Alpha Sorority. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, game shows and was a Minnesota baseball and football enthusiast.

She is survived by daughter Carol J. (Dr. Daniel) Groth of Hiawatha, Kan., son Joseph E. (Jeanne) Borland of Rochester, Minn., son Walter L. (Julie) Borland of Kasson, Minn., daughter Shirley A. (Sheldon) Krueger of Oak Harbor, and son Donald R. (Thelma) Borland of Rochester, Minn., 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include sisters Dorothy (“Baldy”) Long of Rochester, Minn., Vivian Christianson of Minneapolis, Norma Evenson of Overland Park, Kan., and Eunice (Clayton) Tiede of Mankato, Minn., and brother Ardean (Louise) Evenson of Rochester, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother; one sister; one stepdaughter; one step-grandchild and her parents.

Funeral services were held May 13 at at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, Minn. The Rev. Kathryn Gauger officiate. Burial was at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
