Dora Jean Sproull passed gently on the morning of April 26th at home with her husband Bruce in Oak Harbor. She joined her daughter Bonnie Kay and her son Geoff who preceded her on their journey.

Dora was born in August 24th, 1929 in Wenatchee, Washington, the daughter of Lawrence and Martha Brubaker Hurt. She grew up in Seattle, attending Franklin High School with her sister Marie. She moved to California to attend Art Center in Los Angeles and it was there she met her husband Bruce Sproull in 1948. They were married on October 21, 1949 in Montebello, Calif.

Dora and Bruce had two children, Bonnie and Geoff. They lived many places as her husband’s aerospace career required, including France and England, where Dora became an avid Francophile. They were long time residents of Simi Valley until retirement brought them to Oak Harbor where so many of their relatives were living. They became very involved with the dedicated people who were instrumental in creating the PBY Memorial Foundation, located in Oak Harbor and continued with those friendships.

Dora loved her home and during the last years was enjoying the Oak Harbor Gem Club where she did lapidary projects and made many friends.

Her grandchildren, Renee Sproull of Bellevue and Aaron Martell of Tucson, Az. will miss her dearly. She was the eldest daughter of five children, Marie, Larry and Carol preceded her departure, but her youngest sister Patsy Moore of Redmond will remember the wonderful years they shared. Aunt Glenna and Oscar Jenkins, cousins Warren Thoreson, Joann Lindsey, Joe Stroyan, Ray Jenkins, and Sharon Gilbert, their husbands, wives and children will also mourn her passing. Her unique way of perceiving the world, her spirit and devotion to all things beautiful in nature and in life have touched all who knew her. Blessed be… were her adieus.

There will be an informal gathering at Bruce Sproull’s home on Starflower, on Sunday, May 5th between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for family and any friends who would like to attend.
