Paul was born on Dec. 26, 1953 to Donald and Patricia (Goethel) Anderson at the Nouasseur U.S. Air Base near Casablanca in French Morocco, where his father was flying planes for the U.S. Navy.

He grew up in Oak Harbor, Wash. on Whidbey Island, where he developed a love for fishing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing high school baseball and football. Paul attended U.W. Stout, where he was on the wrestling team. There he met his wife Pam.

Paul and his family owned and ran the Oak Harbor Tavern. He was a commercial fisherman on Puget Sound, in Southeast Alaska and on the Bering Sea in Bristol Bay. Paul loved being a dad and enjoyed coaching Pop Warner football and supporting his children’s sports during high school.
