Dinah ‘Joan’ Downing: Sept. 4, 1944 – Dec. 29, 2018

Joan was born on Sept. 4, 1944 to Alice and Joe Taylor in Anacortes. She passed after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was preceded in passing by her parents, brother Warren and sister June. She is survived by her sister Carol, brother-in-law Elmer, daughters Melody and Alice, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as several cousins and many wonderful friends.

Joan loved family, traveling, playing cards with friends, gardening and animals. She never passed up an opportunity for an adventure. She traveled around the world and made many great memories. Her family was the light of her life and she cherished every chance to spend with them. She was the most fabulous cake baker and always made a special cake for a loved one’s birthday.

Joan was known for being a kind, loving supportive person who always found the best in people. She had a soft spot for creatures and would rescue any critter in need.

Joan’s celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 24 at noon at the Squalicum Boathouse at Zuanich Park in Bellingham.
