Delphine Murphy

Delphine Murphy, 83, of Great Falls, Mont., a retired licensed practical nurse, died April 29, 2006 of natural causes.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at the O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. O’Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors include her daughters, Loretta Gail Stewart of Great Falls, Mary Janet Simmons of Waldorf, Md., Cathleen A. Hand of Oak Harbor, Francis Jane Spellacy of Ohio; step-daughter, Carol Bufonte of Garfield Heights, Dunmore, Penn.; sister, Alice Plantec of Milltown, N.J.; 19 grandchildren and spouses; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frances J. Murphy in 1997 and son-in-law, David Hand, in 2005.

Delphine was born April 10, 1923 at Bayonne, N.J. She grew up and attended schools in Dunmore, Penn. She married Frances Murphy in 1946 in Dunmore.

Delphine worked in Bayonne Shipyards as a riveter during WWII on PT boats. She later worked as a licensed practical nurse.

Delphine was active in Maryland Extension Homemakers and the Maryland Lung Association. She enjoyed reading, music, and family gatherings.
