De Leon Viloria Helen

Helen De Leon Viloria, age 58, died Oct. 1, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the Philippines. She was born Oct. 13, 1945, in Masinloc, Zambales, Philippines, to Valentin and Priscilla Delos Reyes De Leon.

Helen graduated from Centro Escolar University in Manila, receiving her bachelor of science in nutrition. She was married to Adolfo “Pepper” Viloria Oct. 2, 1973.

Helen left the Philippines to follow her husband’s military career. Their first move was to Guam, where a son Arvin De Leon Viloria was born. The family spent three years in Guam and then transferred to Kingsville, Texas. While in Texas, Arvin passed away at the age of two. Later that same year, a daughter Christine Joy Viloria was born.

The Navy sent the family to Japan for a tour and then on to Point Mugu, Calif. While at Pt. Mugu, son Joseph Randolf Viloria was born. The family went on to Barbers Point, Hawaii, where Pepper retired from the Navy.

The Viloria family returned to California for a time and in September of 1989, moved to Oak Harbor. Helen worked for a fish processor in Anacortes for a short time and in May of 1990, began work in the dietary department at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville, a position she maintained until her death.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph of Cupertino Catholic Church, NAS Whidbey Island. She was a four-year breast cancer survivor. She loved bingo and could always find time for a trip to Northern Lights Casino in Anacortes. Helen was known as a wonderful cook and also for her love of travel.

Helen is survived by Pepper, her husband of 32 years, at the family home Oak Harbor; by one daughter Christine of Silverdale and one son Randy of Tukwila. Four sisters, Juliet Villanueva and Evangeline Cooper, both of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Sister Grace De Leon of Alhambra, Calif., and Dr. Jessica Nicholas of Oxnard, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph of Cupertino Catholic Church Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Young as Celebrant. Vigil services were held Friday, Oct. 15. Rites of Committal will be held Monday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m., at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent.
