Chris Anthony Johnson

AD1 (AW) Chris Anthony Johnson, 37, 15-year resident of Oak Harbor, died suddenly at his home Sept. 7, 2004.

Mr. Johnson was born in Belding, Ionia County, Mich., Jan. 19, 1967. His parents Keith Johnson and Shirley (Kovac) Johnson raised Chris in Vestaberg, Mich., where he graduated from high school. He entered the U.S. Navy in September 1985, and came to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in 1989. As an aircraft engine mechanic he worked on the A-6 and then the EA-6B aircraft, most recently with VAQ-135 and VAQ-129.

Chris and Erica were united in marriage July 24, 1998, creating the Johnson family we all came to know and love. Chris and his family are active members of Lighthouse Christian Center, where he dedicated his time assisting the youth group. Chris loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing whenever he could. He was also an accomplished carpenter. Chris also lived his childhood dream, becoming a firefighter and serving the community as a volunteer fireman for five years.

Chris is survived by his wife, Erica; three daughters, Asia, Adrian and Cristi; one son, Haron; his parents, Keith and Shirley Johnson of Florida; two brothers, Randy Johnson and wife Kelly of Japan and Kirk Johnson of Virginia; one sister, Shelley Johnson of Florida; his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Valerie Moore of Oak Harbor.

Viewing will be Tuesday, Sept, 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Christian Center, Pastor Mark Cargill officiating, with full military honors under the auspices of the NAS Whidbey Island Honor Guard.
