Charlotte Scott

Charlotte Helen Scott, lifetime resident of Oak Harbor, died Jan 1, 2003, at Careage of Whidbey.

Mrs. Scott was born June 16, 1905, in Oak Harbor to a prominent pioneer family. Her parents were Alfred Maylor and Mary (Hoffman) Maylor. Her grandfather was Samuel Maylor, who emigrated from Ireland in 1851 and settled on what became known as Maylor’s Point, where Charlotte lived as a young girl.

Charlotte graduated from Oak Harbor High School and attended the University of Washington School of Nursing. Following her graduation from nursing school, she worked as a charge nurse at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. In 1942, she returned to Oak Harbor to help care for her mother (Mary Hoffman Maylor) and later her father (Alfred Maylor.) Returning to nursing, Charlotte worked for 12 years as the first civilian nurse at NAS Whidbey Hospital.

On Aug. 23, 1946, Charlotte married George R. Scott in Oak Harbor. The two of them have enjoyed over 60 years of companionship — fishing, cooking, travel and bird watching.

Charlotte is survived by her husband George; sisters-in-law Mary Maylor and Ethylee Maylor, both of Oak Harbor, Thelma McIntyre of Mount Vernon, Ivy Brotherton and Dorothy Hubble of Moses Lake; also, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Murray, Pauline Duane, Juanita Bonnelle and Alma Mars and brothers Ray (Raymond), Ran (Randolph Haley) and Ted (Theodore) Maylor.

Charlotte was a great wife with a youthful spirit. She will be missed by her devoted husband George and by her many friends and relatives. Kathy and Susan Mars (nieces) and Karen Ford will particularly miss her visits to Holly, where for many years she and George made memorable contributions to the celebrations of the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A graveside committal service will be Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Maple Leaf Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church, Pastor David Lura officiating. Memorials may be made to Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church. Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
