Charles “Woody” Douglas Woods, 62, of Coupeville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Island Hospital in Anacortes.
Mr. Woods was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Caldwell, Texas. He attended schools in Burleson County, Texas. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, and served two years. Woody lived life to the fullest. He loved helping others and touched many lives with his kindness. He was a great family man and would stop at nothing to protect them. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his son-in-law Bruce, and being outdoors.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Shirley Juenke Woods, his loving daughter, Teri Ann La Londe, son-in-law Bruce La Londe, who loved him dearly, and his two grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Shaun Douglas La Londe and Shelbi Ann La Londe, all of whom currently reside in Oak Harbor. Other survivors include his sisters, Katherine McCoy and Mary Lee Williams of Texas; his brother, Robert Lee Woods; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Sally Juenke of Kerrville, Texas. Woody was preceded in death by his mother, Susie B. Estes, his father, Marvin Woods, and his brother, William Harold Woods.
Woody lived out his final days in the Home Place in Oak Harbor. He had a one-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. The staff at Home Place were loving and caring towards him and his family. The family is very grateful that he had such a wonderful place to live out his final days. He died peacefully in the hospital and now is with our Lord and Savior, and those who went before him.
A memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at 4 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Oak Harbor, Pastor Clint Webb officiating. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 12721 – 30th Ave. N.E., Suite #101, Seattle, WA 98125. Arrangements under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
