Charles Wayne Dunn

Gaveside funeral services for Charles Wayne Dunn will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville with Rev. Ronald Belisle of St. Mary’s Catholic Church as Celebrant.

Charles Wayne Dunn, 73, died suddenly Sept. 2, 2003, at his home in Coupeville. He was born June 4, 1930, in Yakima to Charles S. and Elsie M. (Lovins) Dunn. Charles was raised in Yakima, but completed high school at Everett, graduating with the Class of 1948. He attended the University of Washington for one year.

Mr. Dunn enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949 and began a 26-year career. The Navy took him to Hawaii, California, tours at sea, and to NAS Whidbey Island. He retired as an ADR-1 (E-6) in the mid 1970s. Following retirement, Mr. Dunn worked as a fuel truck driver for Riksen-Mattson Distributing of Oak Harbor for over ten years. He then delivered mussels part time until his retirement in 1995.

Mr. Dunn enjoyed fishing, hunting, the out-of-doors, gun collecting, cars, cooking, gardening watching classic movies, reading and travel, especially his trips to Reno.

He is survived by his wife Ruby at the family home, Coupeville; by three children and their spouses: Janet and Manny Rojas of Coupeville; Michael and Michelle Dunn of Ketchikan, Alaska and Cheryl and Cory Asleson of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is also survived by four step children: Terri and Michael Thomas of Ferndale, Michael Gordon of Stephensville, Montana; Kraig Gordon of Everett and Lisa and Terry Beitler of Burlington. Three grandchildren, Celena M. Rojas of Seattle; Joseph M. Rojas of Coupeville and Lacey E. Dunn of Ketchikan and two step grandchildren, Christopher M. Thomas and Bryan J. Thomas, both of Ferndale also survive.
