Charles Johnston

Charles D. Johnston, 81, of Oak Harbor, died at Whidbey General Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002.

Mr. Johnston was born in Beaver Falls, Pa., on Feb. 8, 1920. He was raised in Beaver Falls, where he attended schools and graduated from high school. Following high school graduation, he married Margaret McCandless at Fallensby, W.V., on June 28, 1940. He entered the United States Marine Corps and served his country during World War II. Following the war, the couple lived in Rochester, Pa., for several years, before moving to Pasadena, Calif. They later lived in Baldwin Park, West Covina and Nipomo, Calif., before coming to Oak Harbor in September of 2001, to be near family. Mr. Johnston was always happy maintaining things, and was a true fix-it man.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peg”; three children, Patricia Rickman of Oak Harbor, Debra Johnston of Salt Lake City and Robert Johnston of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Nancy Holbrook and Ryan Johnston; two great-grandchildren, Kurtis and Jessica Holbrook; also, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his sister Helen and his brother Robert.

Services will be private. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6315 A & B Fleming, Everett WA 98203. Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
