Charles E. “Charlie” Ladd

Charles E. “Charlie” Ladd, 78, died at his home in Oak Harbor Dec. 21, 2003, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Ravenna, Ohio, to George Earl and Myrle (Davidson) Ladd.
Charlie attended Ravenna High School. He enlisted in the U.S Navy in 1944, serving 20 years. He retired as a chief petty officer. He then was hired by civil service and worked as an electronics technician for NAESU.
Mr. Ladd was a very active bowler and golfer, making many life-long friends. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch No. 97, Veterans of Foreign Wars Whitehead-Muzzall Post No. 7392, Oak Harbor Elks Lodge No. 2362, the American Legion George Morris Post no. 129, all of Oak Harbor, the NAS Gallery Golf Course and the Retired Chief Petty Officers Association.
Charlie is survived by two children and their spouses, Roland and Marjorie Ladd of Sayreville, N.J., and Laura and Richard Cadogan of Temecula, Calif., and by three stepchildren, Barb and Joe Short of Oak Harbor, Steve Weatherby of Oak Harbor and Bob Weatherby of Bellingham. Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. His wife Rose preceded him in death in 2001.
Private family services were held under the direction of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch No. 97 of Oak Harbor. Cremation was held with burial at sea to follow under the auspices of the U. S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Charlie’s name to Friends of Home Health Care, P.O. Box 400, Coupeville, WA 98239-0400. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
