Carol Anderson: May 3, 1942 – August 9, 2022

Carol Ann Anderson, a vibrant and loving member of the Whidbey Island community, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of August 9, 2022 in Oak Harbor. It would be her greatest joy for friends and family to gather together for her Memorial Service at Family Bible Church on Sunday, August 21 at 3:00pm.

Carol Ann was born in Philadelphia to Viola (Hogg) and Lawrence Pollock. As a young girl she moved with her parents and younger sister June to North Hollywood, where she played barefoot with friends in the warm sun and enjoyed the afternoon ice cream truck and 25 cent movies at the local theater with her close cousin Wayne Johnson. After Carol’s father passed at a young age, her mother married Otis Patrick. He adopted her as his own and blessed their family with a darling baby brother, Tracy. During her teen years, their family moved to many different duty stations, and she graduated with honors at 17 years old from St Mary’s Girls Academy in Pax River MD, as both ASB & Senior Class President.

In December of 1963 Carol (Pollock) Patrick married Paul Lindgren, a Lockheed Tech Rep, at Rosie Roads Puerto Rico. She instantly became a doting mother to Paul’s young son, Eric. Shortly after the wedding, they were transferred to their first home in Hawaii. The next 10 years saw many new places and 3 daughters: Los Angeles, where they welcomed their firstborn Laura Ann; then a fun few years in Okinawa, Japan; followed by Moffit Field CA where Susan Anita was born; a few more fun years in the Key West sunshine before moving to Keflavik, Iceland where Bonnie Jean joined the family on a snowy winter day of course.

In 1985 Carol married Robert Anderson. Over the next 25 years before Bob’s passing, they spent many happy summers salmon fishing in Alaska, hosting bible studies at their home and doting on their seven grandchildren. Mimi and Papa loved those kids with all their hearts and gave them so many great life experiences. Carol was an amazing woman filled with a zest for life and an inherent capacity for enrichment. In 1980 Carol earned a double bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from Western Washington University, commuting daily to Bellingham while managing a family with 3 young girls at home. She enjoyed a career at InterWest Bank, taught drug and alcohol addiction courses for NAS Whidbey and later was an instructor of Economics at Skagit Valley College. She was a Master Toastmistress, a Master Gardener, and a beloved member of Family Bible Church.

Carol was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in spring 2020, a shock to us all. Despite the grim prognosis, her amazing spirit, healthy practices and strong faith kept her thriving throughout her cancer journey. Carol loved her family, her friends and her garden. She was a giver and an encourager, always noticing when others needed a kind word or a hug.

Carol is survived by many family members: sister June (Patrick) and Lamar Fowler of Orange Park, FL; Brother Tracy Patrick and Diana of Fleming Island, FL; her three daughters, Laura (Lindgren) and Ted Houck of Oak Harbor; Susan Lindgren of Santa Monica, CA; Bonnie (Lindgren) and Kjel Hanson of Bellevue; Stepson Eric Lindgren of MN; Step-daughter Dawn Jones of Myrtle Beach; Nephews Kevin Patrick and Krista; Michael Patrick and McKenzie; Grandchildren Corey Houck, Christina (Houck) and Daniel Martinez, Kyle Houck, Katie Houck, Brianna Hanson, Chase Hanson, Ashley Hanson; Step-grandchildren Caroline Barelli and Sydney Jones; Great Granddaughter Mia Houck.
