Carlton Wilson

Funeral services for Carlton E. Wilson will be held Saturday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel with Cmdr. Fred Renfroe, CHC, USN (Ret), officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery.

Carlton Edward Wilson, 63, died June 29, 2003 at his home in Oak Harbor. He was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Groesbeck, Texas, to Nelson E. and Margie (Franklin) Wilson. Following high school, Carlton enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The Navy took him to Memphis, San Diego, Hawaii, on various cruises and in 1968, to Whidbey Island. He retired at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station Aug. 31, 1978, as a chief petty officer. He was married to Jeanne C. Ernst in San Diego July 5, 1968.

Mr. Wilson began a second career with Northrop-Grumman Corporation as a technical representative at NAS Whidbey. He was senior field engineer at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Island County Sheriff’s Reserves for several years.

Carlton was a member of the Retired Chief Petty Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Whitehead-Muzzall Post No. 7392 of Oak Harbor and the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Wilson was a meticulous worker with an excellent grasp of new concepts. He also built his own televisions, microwaves and computers. He became very skilled in computer operations and was also an avid photographer and crafted models and model airplanes.

Carlton Wilson is survived by his wife Jeanne at the family home, Oak Harbor; by four children and their spouses: Carlton E. Wilson Jr. and Buffy Saint-Marie of Kapaa, Hawaii; Patricia A. Folkestad and Dale Folkestad of Coupeville; Donald G. Wilson and Michelle McCammon of Oldsmar, Fla., and Tessa L. Gavin of Central Point, Ore.; by one stepson William R. Williams and Adelle Williams of Medford, Ore., and his mother Margie Wilson of Oak Harbor and one sister Anita Fields of Luling, Texas.

Mr. Wilson is also survived by eight grandchildren: Christopher and Cherelle Wilson, both of Kapaa, Hawaii; Matthew Bennett of Salinas, Calif.: Tessa Bennett of Coupeville; Kara Wilson of Oldsmar, Fla.: Aaron Gavin of Central Point, Ore., and Jasmin and Jennifer Williams, both of Medford, Ore.
