Bryce Alan Brown

Bryce Alan Brown, a 30-year resident of Oak Harbor, died Sept. 18, 2003. He was born in Auburn, Ind., June 27, 1935, to Charley Brown and Genevive Badman Brown. He attended schools in Auburn until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1954. Chief Petty Officer Brown served his country with distinction during 30 years of active duty. His assignments included postings in Guam, Diego Garcia and aboard the USS Midway (CV-41) with VF-161. He considered Oak Harbor his home and retired at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in October 1984.

Bryce is survived by three daughters: Beverly Adams and husband Steve and their two sons, Steven, 11, and Michael, 9, of Havelock, N.C.; Barbara Ann Massie and husband David of Montgomery, Ala.; Brenda Lee Bell and husband Tim and Brenda’s children, Jesse and Megan Weber, of Blackhawk, S.D.; and five step-daughters: Darlene Jensen and husband Ivan, of Graham; Doreen George and husband Don of Elma; Kathy Massey and husband Bill of Oak Harbor; Karen Schults and husband Mike of Oak Harbor; and Billie Williams and husband Bob of Coupeville. He is also survived by his brother, Basil Brown and wife Martha and his cousin Harvey Badman, who live in Leo, Ind.

Bryce was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Evelyn, Jan. 31, 2001.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25.
