Bryan Martin Matthews

Bryan Martin Matthews, 13, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009. He was born June 26, 1995, in Anacortes.

Bryan was raised in Oak Harbor, and was an eighth grader at Oak Harbor Middle School, having also attended Olympic View and Hillcrest elementary schools and North Whidbey Middle School as well. He loved music and dancing, boxing, collecting sneakers and enjoyed eating a good meal, especially chicken teriyaki. He attended Living Faith Christian Center.

Bryan is survived by his mother, Yvonne “Cookie” Matthews of Oak Harbor; his father, Anthony Bass of Lubbock, Texas; his brother, Shawn Warner of Oak Harbor; his three sisters; his grandparents, Minnie Ray of Lubbock andLois Bass of Tatum, N.M.; aunts, Shirley Matthews, Terry Ann Matthews, Gloria Matthews, Patricia Dobson (James) and Brenda Matthews, all of Philadelphia, and Sara House (James) and Rachel Warner, both of Oak Harbor; uncles, Totsey Bass and Myron Alexander, both of Lubbock, Ricky Bass of Moss Point, Miss., Jeffrey Bass of Del Rio, Texas, Chester Matthews of Wichita, Kan., Lorenzo Matthews of Philadelphia, Bernard Franklin of Bellingham, and Sonny and Bobby Williams, both of Oak Harbor; special cousin, Tim Johnson of Oak Harbor; special grandmother, Gail Warner of Oak Harbor; special grandfather Mikel Christian; special friends, Barry Turner and “Nasty”, both of Oak Harbor; special aunt Dee of Oak Harbor; godfather Lawrence Griffin of Oak Harbor; also, numerous other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Saturday, March 21, 2009, 1:30 p.m., at Living Faith Christian Center, 551 NE Midway Blvd., Pastor David B. Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Donations may be made at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union.
