Bonnie Knue

Bonnie J. Knue, 75, passed away suddenly June 13, 2003, in Skagit County. Bonnie was born on Feb. 12, 1928, in Marshall, Okla., to Inez and Roy Bash. She was raised in Oklahoma and attended the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmonds, where she graduated with a teaching degree.

She met and married Jean M. Knue Oct. 18, 1952, in Oklahoma. She taught in the Putnam City Consolidated Schools and they lived in Stanley, Okla., until they moved to Anacortes in 1961. She began teaching in Oak Harbor, then Anacortes and back to Oak Harbor when they moved permanently in 1963. She has been a member of the Oak Harbor community for the past 42 years. She taught for 30 years and retired in 1987 after many years of “reaching and teaching” children at Clover Valley Elementary. Throughout those years she was an active assistant leader to Spots and Saddles 4-H club which she and her husband started.

She has been an active member of the Oak Harbor Emblem Club No. 450 and was a “Tall Lady” in that affiliation. She enjoyed motor homing, working with flowers, collecting jewelry and caring for her husband, Jean.

During her retirement one of her great joys was the time she spent socializing with friends at all their favorite dining establishments in the area. But most of all she took pride in following the lives and careers of her children and grandchildren, she had her favorite copy machine in town to make copies to send to relatives and friends back east.

She is survived by her husband, Jean M. Knue, now residing at Alliance Living Community of Anacortes; her son Timothy Knue and wife Friederike (Ricky) of Mount Vernon; daughter Beverly Kesselring and husband Jerry of Maple Valley; and two grandsons Paul and Mark Knue of Mount Vernon. She has three remaining siblings, Norlene Hayhurst of California; Dean Bash of Oklahoma; Rex Bash of Anacortes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents; four brothers and two sisters preceded Bonnie in death.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Oak Harbor with a reception to follow. Rev. Father Ronald Belisle officiating. Private family graveside services proceeded at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Harbor Emblem Club No. 450
