Long-time resident of Oak Harbor, Billie Schwartz, died June 8, 2007, at Whidbey General Hospital after a short illness. She was born Billie B. Glass, Nov. 20, 1917, in Richmond, Va.

In February of 1938 Billie married Walter Schwartz who was serving in the Navy. In 1957 they were transferred to NAS Whidbey Island and her husband retired here in 1959.

Billie was a homemaker for most of their married life, although she did work at the Navy Exchange for several years while her children were in college.

Billie is survived by her daughter, Sandra Matsen with husband John of Anandale, N.J., and her son Gary Schwartz of Moses Lake, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 2001. At request of the family there will be no services held at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral, Oak Harbor.
