Bernice Copeland, 70, of Oak Harbor, died March 22, 2007, in Coupeville. She was born in Amagon, Ark., on March 13, 1937, to Zeb and Leona (Brumley) Self.

On Jan. 3, 1961, she married Bobby Joe Copeland. Together they spent three years overseas while he served in the U.S. Navy, which brought them to Oak Harbor in 1964 where they lived off and on until deciding to call Whidbey Island home in 1976. They later divorced.

Bernice was an active member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 129. She enjoyed bowling in earlier years, ceramics, cake decorating and sewing.

She is survived by her son George Anthony Copeland and daughter-in-law Michelle of College Park, Maryland, son Robert Blaine Copeland of Oak Harbor, and daughter Connie Copeland of Oak Harbor; and one grandchild, Scott Copeland.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
