Arthur Navarro Langston, Jr.

Funeral Mass for Arthur N. Langston, Jr. was celebrated June 13 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Belisle, Celebrant. Interment prayers followed at Maple Leaf Cemetery. The Rosary was said at St. Augustine’s Thursday with the Rev. Michael O’Neil.

Arthur Navarro Langston, Jr., died at his home in Oak Harbor June 3, 2003, at the age of 95. He was born Oct. 13, 1907, in Rossville, Texas, to Arthur N. Langston, Sr. and Ina Ross Langston.

Mr. Langston was raised in Galveston and San Antonio. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in June of 1933. He was discharged as a corporal in June of 1937.

Following his military service, Art settled in San Diego, where he met a co-worker, Aida Izzarelli. They were married Nov. 23, 1935. San Diego became their home for more than 40 years.

Art was employed as a calibration engineer for General Dynamics in San Diego. He and Aida also owned a restaurant in La Jolla, Calif., for many years. They were very active in their community and loved to entertain.

In 1978, the Langstons moved to Oak Harbor to be with family. They were members of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. Art was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Whidbey-Fidalgo Assembly of Oak Harbor. He loved being with family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Langston is survived by two children: Catherine Nicholls of Oak Harbor and Arthur N. “Bud” Langston, III and his wife Pam of Vienna, Va., and by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Aida Langston preceded him in death in November of 2001 after nearly 66 years of marriage. Two sisters and one brother also preceded in death.
